The Impact of Technology

by Cristhian Bedon on April 15, 2009

I recently had to write a paper on how technology had/has an impact on me. The follow is like a short memoir on how it has.

Technology has impacted me tremendously; it is a huge part of my life now, and will be in the future. Starting back when my dad brought home a “Compaq Deskpro” with Windows 98 installed (which I still have), I knew PC’s were a part of me. It started with small command prompt keys and learning how to get shortcuts all in place — remember, this is back when I was in 4th grade. By the time I was in 6th grade I could work my way around a PC without a mouse, which I had to do at one point in my 6th grade class we managed to lose all the mouse trackballs! I was one of the few students that could say I can fix your PC, and the teachers would allow me to; back then the school’s didn’t have a tech guy to go to. With time, I learned more and more about the hardware of PC’s but it didn’t seem to intrigue me as much. Then I started getting into the software.

When high school officials came to my elementary school to recruit new students, I was really captivated by what they had to offer in London IT support companies like Prosyn. Being a technology-based school, I was eager to work with more hardware and software, and was glad for the chance to expand my knowledge. So learning of what they could offer gave me the sense of hope to archive even more knowledge than I already had. I was put in basic web class, then I was honored to be placed in a specialized technical course formerly called ITLA (now CTIA – Connecticut Innovation Academy) where we were put to the task to build and run a “business” online; the task that year was to create a web 2.0 site. After that year – and winning best web 2.0 site from all the schools that competed, within the state of CT – I knew technology would be in my everyday life. From learning to build a site from scratch using information gathered from the web, to breaking down javascript, and getting the small adrenalin rush from all of that, I knew this was what I wanted to do career wise. I personally learned more on the web and graphic design, managed to build a few sites that are on line as well as a personal site that doubles as both a portfolio and a blog.

Looking into the future with technology, I plan to get a Masters Degree in M.I.S (Management Information System) and embark in freelance work done with web & graphic design on the side. I predict that technology will never leave my side as I grow up; made a big impact and will continue to do so.

This is a small excerpt on my life of my life with technology; hoping that you will get to know me better. I will post a pic of the Compaq Deskpro once I get it all dusted off tomorrow. I want to thank Ben for helping correct some of the grammer in this paper; grammer is one of the few things I need to work on. Hoped you got to know me a bit more, and I want to leave you with this question: How has technology impacted you?
